Words in Motion
A program where young writers explore fiction, poetry, and screenwriting while gaining hands-on filmmaking experience. Culminates in creating and screening your own short film.

About This Program
Words in Motion is a dynamic program that bridges creative writing and filmmaking, inspiring young writers to see their stories come to life on screen. Students explore different genres including fiction, poetry, and screenwriting while learning the fundamentals of visual storytelling.
The program begins with an introduction to creative writing and film, exploring different genres and the basics of storytelling. Students learn screenwriting format and complete writing assignments in their chosen genre. Week two focuses on character development, with students creating compelling characters and understanding character arcs through worksheets, discussions, and role-playing exercises.
Students then dive into building settings and worlds, crafting vivid descriptions that enhance storytelling with an emphasis on visual storytelling. They create mood boards for their film ideas and learn how settings translate to screen. Plot and structure come next, with students learning story arcs, outlining techniques, and screenplay format while analyzing plot twists in popular films.
The final two weeks bring everything together as students write dialogue and scenes for their short films, learn basic filming techniques, and work in groups to finalize scripts and shoot their projects. The program concludes with editing workshops and a final showcase where students screen their short films and share favorite pieces from their writing assignments with family and friends.
Words in Motion aims to inspire young writers and filmmakers, enhance their storytelling skills, and foster a supportive community where creativity can flourish!
