About This Program
Culinary Cultures & Class is an immersive program that takes students on a global culinary journey. Each session explores a different culture's cuisine, teaching not just cooking techniques but also the history, traditions, and dining customs that make each culture unique.
Students will explore Italian, Mexican, Jamaican, Soul Food, Middle Eastern, French, Indian, American BBQ, Burmese, Spanish, African, and Mediterranean cuisines. Each session combines hands-on cooking instruction with lessons on dining etiquette and kitchen sanitation, ensuring students develop well-rounded culinary skills.
The program emphasizes social skills development through collaborative cooking and sharing meals, building meaningful relationships and enhancing teamwork. Students gain cultural awareness through exposure to various cuisines and dining customs, fostering appreciation for diversity and encouraging empathy.
Engaging in culinary arts allows students to express their creativity—whether through cooking, designing dishes, or sharing personal food stories—enhancing their self-esteem and confidence. Cooking requires focus and attention, which encourages mindfulness and helps students relax and find joy in the process of creating and sharing food.
The program culminates in "Taste of Tradition: Family Dinner Night!" where students plan a multicultural dinner featuring dishes learned throughout the program, host a formal dinner with guests, and receive certificates of completion.
